Which privacy fence is right for your yard?

Enjoying your yard without feeling watched -- that's often the main reason people install a fence. But between opaque, semi-opaque, and decorative models, the choice isn't always obvious. Here's how to sort it out.

Defining your privacy level

Three categories to consider:

Full privacy (100% opaque): a true cocoon, impossible to see through from the outside. Ideal for exposed yards or close neighbours.

Near-total privacy: blocks the view while keeping a different look from traditional solid fences.

Decorative boundary: the property line is marked cleanly, privacy is secondary.

The Zen model -- full privacy

The Zen is made of 100% aluminum panels with horizontal lines. Complete opacity, contemporary look, zero maintenance. It doesn't rust, it doesn't warp, it lasts.

Composite and PVC -- full privacy too

Both offer complete opacity thanks to interlocking boards. No staining, no sanding, several colours available. Composite has the look of wood without the drawbacks. PVC resists frost and UV.

Chain link with slats -- budget-friendly privacy

For larger lots or tighter budgets, privacy slats in a chain link fence provide about 99% opacity. It's effective and costs less than a solid fence.

Ornamental with PVC panels -- the compromise

We combine the elegance of an ornamental fence with PVC panels inserted between the pickets. The result: near-total privacy without the solid-wall effect.

Height -- the key factor

Six feet is the standard height to effectively block the view from the street or the neighbouring lot. But always check your city's municipal bylaws -- some limit the permitted height.
